Toward a Billion More Trees in Ontario

John Bacher is the author of “Two Billion Trees and Counting: The Legacy of Edmund Zavitz”, published in 2011 by Dundurn Press. This biography of Edmund Zavitz, highlighted how Zavitz rescued Ontario from desertification, floods and human induced forest fires by government directed conservation and afforestation. John received his doctorate from McMaster University in 1985: his focus was on the struggle for social housing in Canada. An active conservationist with a paricular interest in the protection of the rural landscape of Southern Ontario, John became a founding director of the Preservation of Agricultural Lands Society in 1976, which currently employs him as a researcher.
