Is it really our collective will to grow until we drop? Science for Peace and the Women’s Healthy Environments Network (WHEN) invites you to the pre-launch of Mike Nickerson’s latest book, Life, Money and Illusion: Living on Earth as if we want to stay, republished in a new edition this fall by New Society Publishers.
Life, Money and Illusion advocates change by shifting the dominant economic paradigm from growth to sustainability. How might this be done? Nickerson explores*the implications of attempting perpetual growth on our finite planet. He outlines ways in which we can adapt to what he calls the maturation of the human species. “There is a time for growing and there is a time for mature responsibility,” he says. “The human family is at the threshold of a new era and we are feeling adolescent angst as we pine for the carefree growth of childhood.”
For forty years, Mike Nickerson has been studying the problems and solutions of our times. His study, from outside of institutional molds, reveals how societies change. While humans are a gifted creature, finding our way out of the present situation requires that we acknowledge how the world has changed. It is time to live by the Golden Rule instead of the Rule of Gold and focus more on living than on stuff.
An engaging and empowering vision of a future that celebrates humanity’s extraordinary ability to adapt and evolve, Life, Money and Illusion will appeal to parents, students, business people, social activists, financial planners, environmentalists, economists, grandparents and anyone else with a stake in the future. Nickerson will be available for book signing after the discussion. Refreshments will be served. For more info., please contact Marie Lorenzo 416-970-7393, or e-mail email@example.com.
