Activities for 2016-2017

The SfP U of T Campus Group organised the SDG event on September 10, 2016 at the Bahen Centre, University of Toronto. The event was titled “Sustainable Development by 2030: From your doorstep, to the world” which was a great success; attended by more than 100 attendees, from high school students to UN speakers, academicians and graduate students from different universities.

Film Screening: The Crossing

Science for Peace (U of T Campus Group) along with Ryerson Centre for Immigration and Settlement, Department of Sociology helped in organising the screening of the documentary “The Crossing” and a public lecture on Syria by Prof. Paul Kingston, on March 29, 2017 from 7:00-9:30 pm at University College.

“The Crossing” takes us along on one of the most dangerous journeys of our time with a group of Syrians fleeing war and persecution, crossing a sea, two continents and five countries, searching for a home to rekindle the greatest thing they have lost – Hope. They make it to Europe, only to find out that the hardest part of their journey still lies ahead. Months of uncertainty and waiting, living in one centre after another, takes a toll on their spirits, as they confront what being a “refugee” means.
